gspman
I can get one new ice rod and want a Legend. I'm thinking of a rod that can do both panfish (including URL crappies) and smaller walleye in the 14-15" range. What would you get, the ML or the L??? hanson
gspman-I've been eyeing up them Croix rods this year, just haven't pulled the trigger on them yet. When I do, I'll probably get all 3 of the spring bobber rods that Cabela's had. I know, I know... probably overkill but the rods are different actions and the springs are matched to the rods. Anyway, I would probably go ML. Those URL crappies are a different breed of fish not to mention the 20" plus walleyes you accidentally catch up there as well.If I was strictly getting a panfish rod (not URL), it would be an UL or L. ivegottabite
gsp- i would go with a ml action. the springs that come with the rod match the rod, but you can get different actions of springs to compensate for lure size/weight as well. where's bhorn at? he knows all about these things
SteveWilson
I just built a couple of rods on St. Croix blanks (28" Med) and I would go with a ML for 'eyes and crapies
Jim Hudson
Yup, the ML will be your best bet...
Bob Horn
If you like a little arc in you ice rod I would go with the light. I am buying more ul this year (have 2 lights) because I like the arc in a ice rod. I don`t like a ice rod that is stiff and can`t pick up the slack in the line if there is any while fighting a fish. This year I am going to use the ul and l more because I like the action on those rods better.
Matt Johnson
You can handle 14-15 inch walleye on the Light action just fine, as well as just about any panfish. If you plan on using the rod more for pannies, then I would go with the Light action. The Medium Light is just a little too heavy for my tastes when chasing down gills. The Light action will also do just fine on URL slabs as well. I'll use the ML on perch and walleye like up on Winni and Mille Lacs, but I prefer the L for pannies...
