Ice tragedy already

They were not fishing but ice skating, on 3 inches. Very sad decision!!

Ya I think I'll be a little smarter this year. I'm 261 pounds and was out fishing last year on 3 inches. I think I'll wait a little longer.

This is exactly why we have to be careful. I am as excited as everyone else to get out on the ice but we have to remember to be smart about it. As always there is no such thing as safe ice but be aware of the dangers and be prepared with ice picks (or nails in your pocket) and other safety measures like a life jacket. Lets have a safe year everyone and just be careful.

Can you possibly imagine the grief of the poor little six year old girl? My thoughts and prayers are for her and their families.

Geeze, I thought 2" was safe but the story said there was less than 3". I guess you can't be too careful.

How sad...Its tough to see this at a time when anticipating getting on the ice can blind judgement. Prayers are all I have to offer but it seems so meager......

I am normally not an emotional guy, but this story brought tears to my eyes. I too have 2 daughters, they are also 6 and 9.

The youngest one just came up to me and asked me what was the matter. I explained the story to her, and we both had tears. These stories break my heart.....
