Fish Finder question.

I am kinda a beginner at this whole boating thing so don't laugh to much.

Saturday afternoon we are out in the boat, sitting on a shallow flat. We can see the bottom very clearly. All of a sudden the fish finder starts beeping crazily so we look directly below the transducer and what do we see......NOTHING. Is there a problem with the fish finder? What is it picking up and where is it? What am I actually seeing on my screen? I don't understand.

Please help.

I am not sure but mine has a fish alarm that is what you probably have too. I turned mine off.

What locator do you have?

If the screen showed pictures of fish it is almost certainly a fish id feature that beeped. Even though you didn't see anything, it could have been a minnow or small fish that went under the transducer.

Best bet is to turn the fish id feature off. Plus once you learn to read the graph it will be much more accurate without drawing in the fish symbols.

More than likely your shallow alarm. You can adjust the alarm settings to whatever depth.

On the Bow I have a Lowrance x-67 and the Rear is an X-51. It is the X-51 in which I am talking about. This is not one fish. It is fish after fish after fish. Is it to sensitive or something?

You saw a layer of cold water.
If you have fish symbols turned on then any thing like a thermocline or weed tops will be printed as a fish symbol. Turning your fish symbol off will give YOU advanced abilities to really see whats down there instead of being LIMITED to 3 or 4 fish symbol sizes.
