jessie1
I don't want to try another fish house at this point as the fish trap guide is fine and convenient but the seats are a pain....no pun intended! They are ok for a few minutes but due to age and height conditions, they don't cut it for all day. Have resorted to the 5 gal. bucket, a lawn chair, standing stooped. What else is there? The seat backs are set too forward and are not flexible. Any thoughts out there for a hunchback? Thanks
Steve Foss
Sorry, Jessie, no solutions. I hear you, though. I have an old Fish Trap II (two-man Guide forerunner) with the plywood seats covered in carpet, the ones that slide forward and back. I fished off the seats you mentioned, and they are the one thing that kept me from upgrading to a Guide. In the Trap II, I just use a foam pad and a plastic Coleman collapsible seat, the kind they sell for about $10. Wouldn't work with the Guide, however, since it's set up differently. It's a lot more convenient to be able to move the seats forward and back, like in the Trap II, than side to side, like in the Guide, even if the Guide seats do flip forward. I'd also hate having to detach and stow those Guide seats in the tub when I transport the Guide. Much as I hate to say it (I'm a VERY loyal Fish Trapper), unless they change it, it may be time for an Otter next time I buy one.
captkev
The new clam seats are great, I sat in one at a dealer, I have the 4 year old scout and the seat in there is a pain, but the new swivel seats are sweet. The only reason I bought a guide was that it is only 60" and I only had 61 1/4" from the back of the seat in my Blazer to the back window. All other 2-man houses are much longer and wouldn't fit. icenutter
I put cushioned boat seats on my Guide and they work great. They are the same height as the plastic ones and the cover still fits. I would post a pic, but I may get in trouble. If you would like to see send me your e-mail.
Eric Wettschreck
I took the seats out of mine. Lawn chairs fit real nice in the sled part of the guide. That way you have a little more leg room and the unit doesn't tip forward.

Kaz
Jessie: Did you ever try one of those round cushion they use when sitting in a deer stand. They also promote heat to your tush.. They are filled with styro beads, or something like that. Quite soft on the rear... I'm sure you can find something in a cushion that will solve the hard seat problem.... jessie1
Icenutter thanks, you may have solved the problem for me, now to spend time working on something rather than fishing is the problem!
