Trail Camera - Feeding Deer Outside of Hunting Season

Recommended Posts

Thinking about buying one of the more inexpensive digital trail cameras in the next month or two. I know some guys throw out some corn or other feed and a salt block to increase traffic in front of it. Some even use feeders.

I'm thinking about just putting out a salt block and scattering some feed/corn a few times a week - AFTER muzzleloading and archery seasons close. I'm planning on doing so along some heavily used deer trails with the purpose of trying to get them to stop for a few minutes to say cheese for the camera - to get more and better pictures instead of a fleeting doe butt in the corner of the picture. Not to alter their patterns or draw them from winter yarding areas.

My question is, do you think there are negative consequences for the deer? I'm thinking as long as I scatter it and don't pile it up, it would help prevent spreading of any disease and if I don't put much out or do it very often, they wouldn't come to rely on it or get sick from it. Interested to hear your thoughts before I do this.
