Any particular brand or model that I should be looking towards or away from? How much should I spend on one?------------------ScootRodsbyEngel: custom made fishing rods
0 trollingforeyes
Scoot: This is something that you don't want to go cheap on. It's like this: If you have a $500.00 radio and a cheapo antenna with flimsy connections and everything else is manufactured to the bare minimums your signal from that high buck radio will not get out very far if at all, for very long. Opposite of this if you have this $75.00 radio, and lets say for instance, you have this Shakespeare 8 ft fiberglass, middle of the line priced, say approx. $70.00. This antenna will put out every bit of transmit power that little radio can put out, and will do so for a long period of time, with out any accidents. Like me, I forgot to lower my 8ft when I went under a bridge WOT. Big dummy huh! Luckily I bought a good mount and just had to replace the antenna. We just have to watch for these things. I would plan on spending around that $70.00 figure. Also there are other good brands of antennas out there besides Shakespere. I used that for an example because that is what I use.Good Fishing!
