Recommended Posts

i plan on trying to catch an otter this year and was wondering how i get my tags and if i have to bring them to a registation station or is that only for the fur buyer. its at least an hour or so to get to the nearest station that i saw in the booklet. thanks for any help.

From what I've read about river otters, as cute & playful as they look they're really a pretty nasty little critter if anything tries to mess with them. I have no problem with the population being controlled. I'm sure they'd enjoy a nice meal of duck if the opportunity should happen to arise. I don't know anything about where you get tags however.

last year at the fur buyer i saw one go for 125 and he figured that was little above average because of the size and quality of the fur. but he said expect 75 to 150 depending on all that. i dont understand the book and the tagging process and figued that someone traps on here and knew the routine. they are a smart and shy creatures for sure, they sat and watched from a long ways away last year during duck hunting, and i agree with the vicious comment to. my cousin watched one chase and try to kill some beavers one time.

You must present the otter to a Conservation officer for tagging, no more than 24 hours after the season closes. The otter MUST be sikinned out to be tagged. Look in the regulations book for the DNR office in you area. They MUST be tagged or you can not legally sell them.
