So hows has fishing been?

Havent heard a lot of talk about people out hitting the water in search of some big fall muskies... Anyone having any decent luck lately? Or are the fish in a funk for ya?

This past week, I took two days and fished hard. Seen a total of four fish where a friend boated one of them. Not the biggest fish, but it was still nice to put one in the boat for our efforts. Seemed like the fish were really off for us. Temps were in the mid 50's with high pressure throughout our fishing. We looked and tried just about everything, we seen these four fish holding in one general area of the lake we were fishing and could only get the one to commit. Jerkbaits moved the three lookers and a J-Mac put the one fish into the boat where we tried coming back to the followers and didn't see em again.

Jim, we have been doing alright with numbers just not very big. So far a 41"er is the biggest. Check out the Rochester forum. There is a couple of threads that show how we been doing.

They sure are a fun fish to catch and release. Especially when you see one come up from the deep and inhale the lure. What a rush. I saw one come straight up and nail the bait. Mouth opened and I could see everything. Crazy!

Got 2 in the last 2 weeks -- 44" and last week, a fat 47". Both, real shallow. The 47 came after 5 hours of seeing nothing but a small boil. Had thought of throwing in the towel a few times. I was fishing just for the sake of fishing -- nice day. Then I got a following fish and instead of just being a follow, it bit -- 1 hook on the rear treble and I was lucky enough to get it in the net. My biggest so far. tongue.gif

The fish that I have seen and caught over the last month have been shallow. I been fishing WBL over the last month. We (friends and I) have boated 5 fish in the 40-46" range in the last month with it being slower the last couple of weeks. Haven's seen any "tankers". Since the water temps have hit 55 degrees it has slowed down for us. I caught a dink yesterday and we raised a couple of good ones shallow again -- water temp was 51 degrees. We fished some deeper areas but didn't raise anything. I think that turnover is finished and the fish are everywhere. I am sure they are deep as well but the ones that are shallow tend to be more active.

A couple of weekends left and the "boss" says the boat goes in storage. It is going to be a long winter! frown.gif

Hit the bear yesterday and seen alot of fish everywhere...I think they might be a little "turned over" water temps seem to come in at 50-52 degrees with no suspended bait pods in the deeper stuff, scattered bait but no schooling or tight groups. Classic turn stuff.

I left the lake a little fustrated, seen fish and had solid follows but couldn't get a snap out of em'. They put on that little open the mouth, close the mouth, open the mouth, close the mouth show yesterday. It will drive you nuts! confused.gif

I hear you on that one Jon!!! But from what I gathered, fishing has been as such, almost everywhere. From the people I have talked to.

I heard another big Mille Lacs beast was caught a few days ago. Another 53" that had some weight on her. Curious to see if any pics surface.

Did a good seven hours on a metro lake today. Good follows and three strikes and misses on walk the dog baits. Fish are definetly moving, I just can't seem to put down the topwater baits and go with something that has a better hooking percentage. Can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Put in 3.5 hours on Sunday mid day -- perfect afternoon for Muskies. Or so I thought and couldn't get anything going. Not even a follow.

John, did I meet you on Saturday at the Bear launch? I had the black PRO-V at around 10:45. You were leaving to do some business?

Yep sure did. Welcome to Fishing Minnesota Lals!

I noticed yesterday the fish turned off towards afternoon. So it didn't bother me as much that I missed Sat. afternoon.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
