Patching Snowmobile seat and cover

Yellow Dog

Question

My snowmobile has a small (half-dollar size) tear in the side of the seat. What's the best way to repair it?

Also, I have a 2 inch crack in the hood. This seems more complicated to fix...but I might give a shot. I can get behind the crack if I lift the hood and cut away some of the egg shell foam. Any suggestions?

Thanks and where's the snow?

Duck Tape comes in a lot of colors. grin.gif

If it were my sled I'd take the seat off and then remove the cover enough to get behind the rip. On the outside temporarily tape the rip to close it. Next apply contact cement on the inside of the seat cover and on a piece of patch material. Something thin but strong like nylon fabric for the patch. Let the cement dry and then place the patch on the rip. Press together firmly.

For the crack on the hood drill a small hole at both ends of the crack. This will stop the crack from getting longer.

From there you can have the plastic welded, leave it as is,

or give the area some strength back by scuffing up the underside of the hood then clean it. Cut a piece of hardware cloth big enough to cover the crack with some overlapping.

Apply a glue like Shoe Goo to the underside and then set your hardware cloth into the goo.
