A.L MVP

All I've been hearing on the sports shows is A-Rod or Big Poppy, it depends on who wins the East. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the subject. I would have no problem giving the award to a DH, if he deserved it, but he doesn't. Here are the stats as of tonight with Ortiz's numbers first. Batting Avg: .295/.320 Runs: 115/118 Hits: 172/187 HR: 46/46 RBI: 143/127. Pretty even except that Rodriguez helps his team on defense every night and Ortiz has played 1B 7 times this year. My vote goes for A-Rod. Another little stat I heard on the Bo-Sox radio tonight, Ortiz is 5 for his last 31 at bats. Slumping when the games really count doesn't help either.

I been hearing on the radio the whole DH/non DH debate going on the radio. I know numbers offensively are pretty similar beteen the two. For me, though the MVP isn't just about numbers or whether or not the play in the field or not. MVP should be who was more valuable to their team. In my opinion, you take A-Rod off the Yankees and they more than likely would be in a similar position they are now. It's not like they never made it to the playoffs or World Series without him in recent year. In Boston, though I think if you take Ortiz off that team, there is no way they are contending for the AL East or even a wild card position. So taking that into consideration, I would lean towards giving the MVP to Ortiz.

Reality is its so close, you could make good cases for either on of them.

They should rename the award "Player of the Year." What does "most valuable" mean anyway and how do you measure value other than statistically, like anything else in baseball? I see it as meaning that only players on playoff teams have a real chance of winning it, which is bogus. Whoever has the best year all around should be considered the best player for that year. Ortiz? No way. Can't see a DH getting it. The DH rule should be thrown out. Besides, he does nothing on the bases. Rodriguez is by far the better player because of his defense and running. I'm not really up on the rest of the guys in the running in the AL. Maybe Louis Rivas.

Swamp and DTE,

Got to agree with you boys! My vote would be for A-Rod as much as it pains me to give anything to a Yankee. Buzzy, I see where you are going with Hafner but if you go by taking a guy off the team and where the team would be without him you would have to consider...(AND I KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO HATE IT) Paul Konerko. Take his glove and his 40 HR and 100 RBI off the Sox and plug in Jeff Blum or Ross Gload and we are not even having debates about the Pale Hose in the playoffs. I think it has to go to A-Rod, case closed. Also, take Hafner off the Tribe and you still have the top 5 guys in the order batting around .300 instead of the top 6 guys. The Sox don't even have ONE guy hitting .300.

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES!
