thermocline...?

will the thermocline go deeper before it breaks up?

if the thermocline in late summer goes down to 30-35 feet, and it starts cooling off, will it gradually go deeper?

From what I understand, it's more of a rupture that takes place as opposed to a sinking. I'm sure someone will have a better description.
