Where can I find Lake Trout

Hey guys, I have never posted on the ice fishing part of this site before and figured it was about time. I was wondering if anyone would give me some direction as to where I should fish lake trout this winter. I have never fished for them through the ice and I had my first open water experience last summer on a pike fishing trip in Canada. The power they have in a fight almost blew my mind. Any advice would be much appriciated. I have to say that when I found this HSOforum it was kind of hard for me to belive that there actually were more people in the world like me - I wasn't sure that there were other people who were as crazy as me about fishing on a big ice cube. Fishing out of Washburn can be a blast but your best hiring a guide your 1st time. Try Jim Hudson who is a pro staff here on FM. I fish with him a lot in the winter and he knows that area as good as anyone. He also is a police officer so he gets all the latest info from all the locals.

You can find him on the Wi. forum and he also chimes in on the Duluth/Bwca forum a bit.

Yup, for sure, those big ol lakers can give a rod and reel a work out on the open water. But, there is nothing like hooking into a big trout through the ice. The fight these critters have as you try to pull them from depths of over 100FOW is something every ice angler needs to experience!!

A lot of places to go for some great ice fishing experiences for lake trout, where some northern MN and lots Canadian waters are on top of the list for many people. But, over here in the Apostle Islands Region of Lake Superior, we have some fantastic laker fishing also. And a totally different game plan to catch them as well. But anywhere you decide to go to chase these trout, I am sure you will have a blast!!

What part of minnesota are you in. Lake Kabekona had lakers I think.....
