Sqeaky Minn Kota

gunflint

Question

My transom mount Minn Kota sqeaks with every minute touch and turn. I've thought about lubricating the lower clamp but I don't know if that would negativly effect the holding power when it's in the up position. It seems to improve when I loosen the lower clamp but then I can't let go of the motor or it turns on it's own. Any ideas? Thanks

Hey gunflint...did you ever get the hesitation problem fixed??

My trolling motor also squeaks like crazy once in awhile. I just spray a little WD-40 on it when I need to. Doing this has not effected the holding power in the "up" position as far as I can tell. Only once do I remember it slipping down a little while cruising across the lake with the outboard, and I'm sure that happend because I just didn't tighten up the screw enough. Be careful you don't crank it down too hard though. I stripped that tension screw hole once and had to have the whole hinge replaced. The warranty covered that little problem too. smile.gif

I like the Armor All idea northlander.

I tried Son of a Gun. It worked for about a 1/2 hour. I'm going to spray some Sea Foam lubricant in there this morning and see if that helps.

They said it might take 3 weeks to fix the hesitation problem, so I told them that I'll drop it off after ice up.

Northlander, check your email. I sent you an email last week but it went to someone else.
