Affect of Storms?

O.K. so not very many of us are stuck at work today, but maybe some more of us aren't fortunate enough to be on the water today.

So how did the storms affect the fishing? Anyone have any luck before or after? Anyone crazy enough to fish through it? crazy.gif

Storms are often times great motivators for the fish and I'm wondering where people found them.

I was fishing up north this weekend. Up north there was a little rain with some lightning this morning, not as bad as I think it was here. But I went out just after the lightning stopped. Went straight to a patch of pads and began pitching a tube. On about my 5th pitch I got a 5 pounder!...then I only got 14in fish and less the rest of the morning.

Yesterday was more productive, while fishing docks and steep breaks with jigs, senkos and a spinner bait which produced a nice 19 1/2 incher. All in all a good weekend.

Anyone else have luck before, during or after the storm?

I usually don't make excuses for having a bad day on the water, but I certainly struggle after a T-storm. Don't know if it's the cold or the lightning, but it's definitly an excuse. I tried everything I know and own all for not--2 dinks in 6 hrs total. It was a new lake, but still. There's always next weekend I guess!!

If at all possible I try to get on the water before a storm. Have had very good days fishing right before a storm and in a light rain. If a storm has come through I give it a day. Last night case in point. Storm came through up in meadowlands and we fished tonight. 20 bass in 4hrs and a few northerns and several hits we would have loved to see what they were. This in 15-20mph winds. Water still warm at 75 Will be out again tomorrow..

What I seem to find is, fish don't seem to be able to tell time. What I mean is. They know when it's light out and they know when it's dark out. The eyes on fish do not change to the amount of light hitting them. Fish have to go deeper or find shade on brite days. But when the light is just right For that fish and it's eyes, it has the advantage and it knows it.

So if you can be out fishing and have the clouds come slowly in. Getting darker ever so slowly. Well the fish don't know it's not night time comming and they are going to get it when they can. If you are at the place were the big fish are you will have a good day.
