patching a clam

What is the best way to make repairs on a clam fishhous? I got a clam sleeper free and the canvas needs some TLC. The canvas looks like it got put away wet and just rotted out on a couple spots about 1 foot square.

Your best bet would be to contact the Clam Corporation directly. Do a search and you will find their homepage and shoot an e-mail to customer service and ask if you can get a piece of fabric to mend you shack... After you get it, use a heavier type sewing needle and 20lb test mono and sew it on the inside of the hole... Just make sure the fabric patch is bigger then the hole you need to patch..

Or another idea, is just to buy a replacement tent if your tent is in really bad shape...

If you have any problems, shoot me an e-mail and I will see if I can help you out...

i have done my fair share of patching in the past. Just find some heavy canvas if you don't care what your shack looks like. and cut out a square a little bigger that your hole and sew it as JH stated. good luck.

I patched the holes in my portable fishhouse by removing one of the flaps that covers the windows (Have never used them anyways) cutting the pieces I needed and attaching them to the holes with Sportsmans Goop. Seems to work, I hav'nt had one come loose in a couple of winters now?

Make sure that you at least round the corners on the patches, or the corners will be the first places to start comming loose. (Past experience)

Kevin,

Did you end up getting a hold of Calm? I had the same problem, except it wasn't water that got the best of me....4 legged rodents (mice) mad.gif got at my tarp. I gave Calm a call and they sent me a pretty fair sized piece of canvas to make my repairs.

My mom has a pretty heavy duty sowing/stitching machine and she worked that patch right on. I also got a press on patch as well to reinforce the ripped area.

So far so good with it holding up....let us know how it goes.

I looked at the clam HSOforum but did not contact them. My plans changed on monday to having to do my "honey do list". All though my wife promised to help me patching the canvas on her day off next week. Capt. do you remember how much it cost you for the piece?

Kevin: It may be to late, you may already be done, but Clam advised me to buy 3M Super 77 Spray Adhesive. It works great and the patchs don't come loose... Kaz
