Animal
I thought that after all the spirited talk about the price shock for gas that I would like to hear who was heading for the lake this long weekend and if there was any good advice about how to fish it? I'm off to Ignace, Ont and will be fishing a walk to lake called Kukukis. Lot's of big W's and Pike this time of year. Jigs and minnows for the W's and we throw top water spinners for the pike. It may the first time that we ever crossed the border to save on gas. Have a great Labor Day.
Guest
I think I might take a trip on the upper st croix and pitch a tent on an island and see if anything wants to bite... pool 3 might be a 2nd option.. anywhere fishing is good.
hanson
Yep.Still going. Labor Day weekend is a traditional family get-together up at our lake place in NW MN. I am leaving my truck behind and hitching a ride with a buddy up to my parents place. That will definitely save me some ching $$. Red Lake River & Red River catfishing from shore. Its a pretty economical day of fishing.I just have to pick & choose where I spend some cash now and this will be a trip where I try to save some cash. troutchaser
Taking the wife and kids ten miles from home. Staying on Big Pine Lake. Good fishing, friends on the lake, very economical, and no one knows we aren't 300 miles from home except for me and the gas gauge!!

The Grebe
Mille Lacs was our target and that is where we went! We dinked around out of the wind on Sat. Evening and got one nice keeper walleye for 4 of us, in about an hour or so of fishing. We were working the 8-10 depths over rocks, with slip bobbers and suicidal leeches (they kept winding up in the line like they were trying to hang themselves?). Only got the 1 fish and missed a couple, but we had alot of laughs, talked alot of baseball, and drew a blank on settling the worlds problems. After the fishing, 8 of us hit Grand Casino Mille Lacs and I for one came away happy again! And when I'm happy, Mrs. Grebe is happy A couple of the others not so happy!
