Down to Earth
Is Willie Parker available?
Jarrod32
Parker is interesting, but Benson has just as much upside. I'd go with Benson...but that is without knowing what other RBs are available...
Fat Rap guy
Benson in a heartbeat. Remember when everyone was down on LaDainian Tomlinson because he held out so long his rookie year? Runningbacks don't need training camp as much as other positions. And Chicago's going to run the ball a lot to try and take the pressure off their QB. james_walleye
You can find one heck of a lot more running backs that have held out didnt do anything at all their rookie years than running backs that did anything. LT was by far the exception.

Edgerrin James held out his rookie year and got 17 touchdowns and over 2000 yards.LaDainian Tomlinson held out also and got 1600 yards and 10 TD'sJamal Lewis missed most of his rookie training camp because of an injury and put up 1600+ yards and 6 TD's.I can't think of any runningback who stank his rookie year because he missed training camp then went on to be great the next year. Who are all the players you're referring to?
james_walleye
All you have too do is look at the bears past and see the running backs they have drafted and held out right away. They all contributed their poor careers too coming into camp a month late. I never said anything about guys that held out, had a poor rookie season, and then took off the 2nd year. Im talking the guys who have held out their rookie year and never got their careers on track. They ALL contribute it too holding out their rookie year. Down to Earth
I think one thing that Benson has going against him that maybe those other guys didn't have is a solid back in front of him for the team to use. Having the option of Thomas Jones is pretty good right now, so I don't see Benson having the opportunity to be the exclusive back in Chicago. I say he probably ends up in the 700-800 yard area for rushing this year.
Fat Rap guy
Rashaan Salaam got over a thousand yards rushing and TEN touchdowns his rookie year after holding out. His career started out just fine. Maybe he should have held out the next year as well. Curtis Enis was a head case and tore his ACL nine weeks into the season. Training camp wouldn't have strengthened his ligaments.I know of 5 runningbacks that missed most or all of spring training. Four had very good to great rookie years. One had a fluke injury. I like those odds.By the way, Enis came back his second year and put up nearly the same yardage totals as Thomas Jones did last year.
