Blue Eyed Chocolate Lab

I think I got the wife interested in getting one of these instead of a little dog so if anyone knows of a good place to get a puppy let me know. Not really looking for a hunter but it would be nice if there is one available.

A blue eyed chocolate lab? I've been around labs 20 years and have never heard or seen such a critter. Watch out if someone is peddling them, there's a strong possibility it's a cross. If it's a one in a million spontaneous mutation, I could believe it, but produced with any regularity, I'd question it.

Taken from the breed standards of the AKC...

"Eyes--Kind, friendly eyes imparting good temperament, intelligence and alertness are a hallmark of the breed. They should be of medium size, set well apart, and neither protruding nor deep set. Eye color should be brown in black and yellow Labradors, and brown or hazel in chocolates. Black, or yellow eyes give a harsh expression and are undesirable. Small eyes, set close together or round prominent eyes are not typical of the breed. Eye rims are black in black and yellow Labradors; and brown in chocolates. Eye rims without pigmentation is a disqualification"

Again not saying if you've found a "lab" with blue eyes that it wouldn't make a fine pet, but beware there is a high chance it was crossed with another breed to get the eye color. Actually the breeder should be exposed to the AKC if they are registering the pups so they can verify if they are indeed purebred.

Years ago there was a kennel in Nebraska promoting gray Labs or as they called them "Ghost Labs". They were actually crossed labs w/ Weimeriners. I think they excluded all offspring from that kennel from registration and registering any of those dogs progeny.

"Red" or "British Red" or "Fox Red" labs are the latest craze. My fear is someone will introduce some other breed to create all red pups and sell them as pure bred with a "adopted" pedigree on the sires side. Meaning they'll cross say a red setter with a yellow dam and use a yellow lab sired pedigree from there kennel as the breeding stud so the pups could be sold as pure bred and registered but in reality they are a cross... frown.gif Even the "red" labs shouldn't be peddled as "red" labs. The AKC recognizes them only as yellows and that is still the way they should be marketed. The other one that was a craze but you are seeing less and less is "white" or "Snow" or "Ivory" labs. Again just yellows with a lighter hue. Marketing them as any other color only makes the "money" breeders contemplate a cross breeding to make more money off a color in demand.

Good Luck!

Interesting.

I saw at the Game Fair this year or it might have been last year a pointing lab in one of the PL Breeder booths that had pointing dog style ears. Thinner, longer and not the thicker fur that you usually see on a lab. More like a traditional gsp's ears. Additionally, the ears looked all uniform in color but if the sun hit them just right you could definitely see spots on them.

I didn't say anything because I didn't want to make a stink and because I had my 5 year old boy with but it was obvious that the dog was not a lab. Either a pointer crawled under the fence or this person is intentionally adding more "point" to his labs. This breeder is a major breeder of PL's too.

Hmmmm... What people won't do for a buck.

The eyes on little chocolates do look very blue. As they get older I think it starts to get more hazel colored. My friend works for a kennel in St. Cloud and that is where I got my dog. They should have a few chocolates left that are 8-9 weeks old. Their number is 320-251-7204.

I just took a picture last week of my 9 week old yellow lab with brown eyes and they are just glowing bright blue in the picture. It is actually a pretty cool picture, but just the refraction of light off the flash, have you seen these blue-eyed chocolates in person?

Yep lab pups have blueish-gray eyes for a few weeks when young... Guess I assumed you were looking for a "blue-eyed" lab.... Good Luck in your quest! Have fun with the new pup....

Good Luck!

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
