Luck e 1
I am looking at a couple of rods and can't spend too much. Does anyone know about the Cabelas rods...either the Fish Eagle II or the Tourney Trail IM7? They have combos that are paired with Shimano reels for a good price. 0 Gus
I'd feel them in hand before you buy. I ordered what I thought was going to be a great musky rod. It was even listed as a musky rod in the catalog. But in my opinion it was far far from a musky rod. I returned it. I think they are a good economical rod, but just make sure you are getting what you want. Gander Mtn brand rods are pretty darn good too. I've ended up buying a couple of those this year. Not bashing cabs rods, but make sure you feel the rod before you buy is my advice.
0 Umma Gumma
I use a 6'6" medium 1 pc Fish Eagle II (spinning), and a 9'0 2 pc medium of the same, and they are both really, really nice rods. Can't beat the combo prices, either. Purchased one last year with the Cableas Fish Eagle Reel, and I paid LESS than I would have had I bought the rod by itself (saved exactly .01 cents, I think).Nice thing about Cabelas is that if you buy it and hate it, you can always send it back. Their customer service is great, in my mind.Nice rods, though.
0 mudslinger64
earlier this year i bought a 7ft cabelas xml series rod with the counterweights on the handle that i put an okuma epixor 30 reel on and i love it,the weight system is awesome you can really balance the rod out to feel the light biters.i also had a 10ft fish eagle II and that was also a very good rod for steelhead fishing,i am sure that the smaller walleye rods would be just as good.imo for the price you can't go wrong. 0 Luck e 1
Thanks for the info guys. You guys seem to favor the Fish Eagle II instead of the Tourney Trail...any reasons? The Tourney Trail is less expensive and is IM7 rather than the IM6 Fish Eagle. Is there a danger of the higher mod IM7 breaking?Luck e
0 Umma Gumma
I suppose there's always a danger, depending how big the fish is!I think that, even though the Fish Eagle is only 33 million mod, it's a more "sensative" rod. That term is so hard to quantify when talking about rods, but modulus isn't always an indiciation of the quality of a rod. Many of the higher end fly rods (Winston, Thomas and Thomas, etc.) have some high quality and VERY EXPENSIVE IM6 rods. I realize this isn't a fly rod, but some of St. Croix and Fenwick's intro to mid-line stuff is IM6.The components on the Fish Eagle are better, in my opinion, than the Tourney Trail stuff, too.Spend the extra 20 bucks or so on the Fish Eagle, if you have it. You won't regret it. (And if you do, you can return the rod and get the Tourney Trail rod anyway!)
