Forest Fire on The Gunflint Trail

If you're planning a trip to the Gunflint Trail in the next couple of days check with the forest service in Grand Marais 218-387-1750 to see if you can travel. As of 17:45 this afternoon the is a fire of 240 acres and growing. From Seagull river to Sag. I anticipate being called to help so I won't be able to update for a while. gunflint

Yikes! I hope this isn't the "big one" they always talked about after the huge blowdown a few years back.

Update:

The fire is located between Seagull Lake and Alpine Lake. It's 1 and 1/2 miles long and 1/2 mile wide. The only fishing effected is on Alpine. Everything on the Gunflint Trail is open. Alot will depend on fire behavior today. The GTVFD was called out for structure protection yesterday and will be on stand by for more today.
