Technique for Senkos?

Thanks for everyone's advice on Senkos. I tried them last weekend on a lake I had been struggling on and caught some bass. One question.

When fishing docks, do you tighten the line as soon as it hits the water so you can see and feel what is happening but the Senko will sweep away from the dock or do you let it sink on a loose line so it goes straight down and you tighten the line after it has fallen?

I was getting more hits Sun letting them fall straight down and just watching the line for hits. I just started using Senkos a couple weeks ago and am very impressed.

The only way I know was taught to me by the guy that introduced them to me a few weeks ago. No weight, a fairly large hook and attach hook to middle of worm with special rubber bands. So far my tech is to toss it next to structure in clean water and let it sink to bottom. twitch a few times. Repeat.

The way you just described works well, but is considered wacky worming. The senko style worms work well that way and also hooked through the head in a Texas rig style. They are fairly weedless when hooked up that way and tend to slide under docks when you loose line them after a cast. If you are casting into weed beds, this is the best technique to pull out some big bass. You do not use any weight, the worm is weighted and will sink on its own. Take your time when fishing senkos. They need time to sink between your jerks. The bass will inhale them on the fall. The little ones will hit them in the jerk now and then. A easy cadence is jerk jerk fall, jerk jerk jerk fall. Remember to let it fall and watch your line for strikes. You will not be able to feel the worm on your hook.

I don't use weight with my senko applications, but that doesn't mean you can't. My confidence lure is a senko fished weedless (that is the hook is inserted into the plastic so that the point doesn't catch any weeds) in and around dock posts, boat lifts, and weed lines. Yes they work great around weed lines. I have fished the senko's numerous times this summer around weedlines (pencil reeds) and have landed some real nice bass. The closer to the weeds, the better. I just let it settle to the bottom or and then start twitchin' it back.

A great discussion in the bass forum has brought up some good techniques and colors to use for fishing with senko's.

O-rings maybe. I need to get ahold of some.

I actually just read something in a magazine about using your old, beat up tube baits, cut into rings, and using them in place of the o-rings.

My daughter has clear ponytail rubber bands that have worked well if you can't find the Orings like myself.

They sell the senkos but no orings - ahhh!

goto hsolist and search 'senko' and you WILL find perfect o-rings for cheap! Just scroll through the ads a page or two.

I dont fish senkos and so have never tried this but Ive heard the little rubber bands people use with there braces work well. Might try asking next time your at the dentist.
