I have a Garmin 168 GPS/sonar but it cannot upload/download waypoints. Also is there an updated/upgrade version that allows me to upload maps on unit ? dockehr
Valv, I my "prior life" I owned a couple of Garmin GPSMAP168"s as well as a GPSMAP238. You cannot upload/download the Lakemaster maps from the cd-rom to any units, Garmin or otherwise. As for waypoints, they may have a software update that would include the Garmim GPSMAP168 that will allow downloading waypoints from the cd-rom map(s) via your computer to your Garmin unit. If their HSOforum isn't clear on this, give Mike or one of his staff a call at Waypoint Technoloies in Little Falls,MN.Over the years I have moved back and forth between Garmin and Lowrance units. Frankly, with chip technology, Lowrance is the way to go. I know, these Garmin units aren't cheap but that's progress. Don't get me wrong, the Garmin units put out great information, but in discussions at the I-CAST National Tackle Show (that just ended yesterday)with different mapping technology representatives, other campany's abilities to embrace the emerging mapping chip technology is potentially putting Garmin at some disadvantage with a growing number of fishing consumers.dockehrDr. Roland E. Valv
Thanks dockehr, I figured it out already. And I just sold a good Lowrance LMS 240 which would have worked perfect.....Oh well, I guess I'll get another one soon.....
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted July 24, 2005 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted July 24, 2005 There are plenty of Garmin Units that work with the Garmin Data Card and Garmin ProMaps CD-ROM where the whole lake map is either displayed (data card) or can be downloaded (CD-ROM) to your Garmin GPS and then the whole lake can be displayed. Works awesome. For a list of the Garmin's it works with and lakes available - CLICK HERE for the Garmin CD-ROM and Data Card info and order page. Valv
Rick, I saw that, only problem I have I don't need any of the lakes on that CD, but the lakes I need are not on disc. I figured out already it is the GPS unit that lacks capability, and it's time to upgrade....
