weagle

I hear a lot of hype about this lure. Then the next guy says it is junk.

Why did they quit making them?

What is it, why is it suppose to be so good.

Big G, sure there is plenty of Hype that is for darn sure, I got suckered in a now own 3, but the fact is they produce LARGE fish. Picture your standard Jackpot on roids with three hooks. They are heavier so they ride lower and have less a chnce of being blow out of the water on a strike. I'll tell ya they are a pain to get the hang of, patience is key along with slack line. I'll quit babbling, but will leave you with this Musky Nut tackle has them or sale on their HSOforum right now, do a google search.

I've moved fish with it, but yet to have any takers. I own 2, but I really haven't fished it a ton this year, i've had better luck with other lures not to take anything away from the Weagle, but I'm sure one of these days I'll bag one on it. I like the size and weight to it though.

I fished the Wisconsin opener with one of the original inventors of the weagle; in his hands that was one cool bait. As for me running it… I do have to say it is a very unique bait. It does sit lower in the water and has a wide range action from a fast traveling narrow zig too a almost standing in place walk the dog. The weagle also seems to have more “tail swing” and splash then other top waters. It is a good bait but takes a lot of practice and patience to learn how to run. I spoke with the indavidual that makes them and realized that the specs on what will make a weagle and what is rejected on blanks is a very very small margin. They balance so perfect that it is easy to overwork them and screw up the action. In the right hands they are very productive, and the weagle will make you mad until you get the action right.

I have a couple of them and like the guys said above, there is a learning curve on them. They make an awesome "plop"-"plop"-"plop" sound and really are pretty cool to fish. I haven't had any takers yet on them, but I did have a 24"-28" muskie follow right below it on my whole retrieve. It sat right underneith it at the boat side. They are just too big for smaller fish, but that is probably part of the reason they catch the big dogs.

They arent to big for smaller fish. I have boated a ton of bass on my Weagle and many pike. Key is to work them slow sill you get the hang of it. If it still isnt working right for you slow it down somemore.

I too have a couple of these. A red one and a perch pattern. I have yet to catch a ski on it but have landed quite a few bass and had smaller skis nose up to it. I have had my best luck working it with a 7 foot 6 rod and i use a high speed reel and that seems to pick up the slack and get me in cadence alot easier. Its only a matter of time before i nail one on it. I'm hoping my leech trip in august will allow me to flog that thing!!!

I don't think the weagle is any better or any worse then any other lure. It was all about hype, every musky board was talking about how great the weagle was before they even released it. It was a great advertising scheme, got hundreds of fisherman to start begging for one.

Exactly. The people promoting this lure also have a vested interest in several of the musky boards. Sure there were some big fish caught on this lure last year, but there were many big fish caught on other lures you just didn't hear all the hype. It is a joke how this has escalated into one of the most sought after or hated lures on the market. You either love it or hate it.

Personally i love the lure even though i have yet to catch a musky on it. I know it is only a matter of time though. It moves water like crazy and i think it will have its advantages over the jackpot with the extra weight and riding a little lower in the water. I don't know the people that make it other than seeing them at the musky expo this spring so no shameless promotional plug here. Time will tell if it is any better or worse than anything else out there but i am impressed with the action thusfar and know it will catch fish.

Yeah there was alot of hype for this but its the same as with any other lure that people have luck on in pre-production. The internet turns into one big vehicle for advertisment and if it works for the makers of the lure more power to them, i wish i would have thought of it!! Is it worth the 25 bucks? I bought two of them and if i catch one fish on each lure it is worth every penny to me!

thats my 55 cents.

Danno, I agree 100% with ya. I've got 2 and I'm trying to trade one for a Wabull, as you can see from my post "Weagle for Wabull", I wanna see what the Wabull is all about, plus I like big jerk/glider baits. I think I'm working it right and I have moved fish with it too, I just haven't tossed it much this year, cuz I've been doing good with another lure...YOU KNOW which one I'm talking about Danno..lol

That's just my 21 cents.

Doctor,

Curious, how many fish did you catch prior to Sept 28th without the lure? How many outings prior to Sept 28th? How much time did you throw it (percentage of your outing versus other lures)? Besides the fact that Fall probably the BEST for numbers, I don't know that I could attribute that to the lure. Confidence is key in musky fishing. Those of us that have done it for years have "go-to" baits and spots to hit when all else fails. The lure catches fish there is no doubt about that. I just don't believe that the fish wouldn't have hit another lure in the same spot at the same time. If they felt so strongly about it, they should ramp up production.

It's just another lure, I mean look back to when the Angel Eye Jr. ice jigs came out man everyone had to have one, that was a couple years ago, don't hear much about those anymore. Yeah they were hot, but like someone said does anyone beleive no other lure would have worked?

I have no vested interest in Musky Nut and don't know any of them personaly, I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time, when I got mine. Pre-production testing of the lure proved well for them so why not get the ball rolling and have them selling as fast as they are being made, Musky Nut has done good, KUDOS for them. It's basically a one man operation and that why you don't see them all over the place.

I have yet to catch one on mine, but I have seen a few, I don't throw it ALL the time, to be completely honest it's only gotten a small portion of water time by comparison. I was seeing more on gliders then I was topwater, that could just be the water I mainly fish too.

I don't know.

I got one on September 28 last year to check out the "hype" firsthand.

I caught 10 muskies on it in October and the first week in November on one metro lake in 10 trips. Up to 51 inches and down to approximately 39 degree water temp. Granted I knew where to throw it but I'd say I was pretty impressed.

Have you guys thrown the lure?

Did you catch 10 muskies last year?

I've got five of them and will sell one to you for $100 if you are interested.

Sounds like no more baits until next year.

Thanks for the smug post and the underlying smarta$$ tone.

We have all gained much from it.

Ok my fellow sportsman we can all agree that we like different baits. I thought bulldogs were a joke when they first came out, come to find out that they are very effective in there place, every bait has its place and every angler operates baits differently. I have a heck of a time running the weagle correctly, I like the baits action but I am turned off by the fact that I can not run it efficiently. Doesn’t mean that it is junk just means I haven’t taken the time to learn how to use that bait correctly. I caught a 43” musky once on crappie jig, so does that mean crappie jigs are best and I should throw out and degrade all my other baits. No it is just right place right time added with a hint of good presentation, as musky fisherman we can all relate to right place right time. The weagle has its place and time to be used just like sometimes a willow blade will achieve a better presentation then a Colorado. There are many times when I will pick a different top water bait because its action, size, color and personal confidence in that bait.

I do not believe there are any plugs going on here just some muskie guys in a typical “debate about the bait”

I was also wondering while reading through this topic what percentage of time we spend throwing top water baits? I would be curios to see a breakdown of top water/glider/jerk/crank/ bucktail/etc. The catch numbers tell us bucktails are were it’s at? I personally throw top water maybe 10% of my time on the water.

How often do the rest of you use topwater compared to other baits?

DoctorB;

I asked a simple question on what this "magic lure" was all about, because of all the "hype" that has been generated.

You turned this simple thread of sharing info into some hatred flaming torch fest.

Thanks dude, but next time, just "shhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

As for everyone else, thanks for all the info!!!!!

Much appreciated!
