Converting MarCum ice unit for boat - HELP

rpaulson7

Question

I know I have to buy the high-speed transducer, which I've oredered for my trolling motor.

My question is what can I use to connect the power to my 12-volt deep cell that is running my trolling motor? Does this take an extra ice power cable and some jimmy-rigging? Or does somebody know of a place I can buy one ready to go?

Thanks!

Here is a great post by Dave on installing the Marcum in the boat, it's in the Sponsor Showcase forum. Click HERE to see the post.

I wouldn't recommend wiring the Marcum to your trolling motor battery. You will likely get interference when the motor is on.

I don't know what boat you have, but if you are placing the Marcum on the bow, I would look for a hot (positive) and ground (negative) wire under the bow. Usually there is a removable plate in most boats to access and find some wires to splice into, so you don't need several feet of wire to get the job done. Drill a small hole for the wire to feed into the bow area. You might need a few feet of wire to extend your power cable to the battery/power source.

I just installed my LX-3 on the bow and it works excellent. Good luck

If you wire your Marcum to the same battery as your transom fish locator, you may get interference on that locator and render it useless when they are both on.

My Marcum is wired to my Trolling motor batteries, I get a little interference on the Marcum, but that is what the IR button is for.

I have a lowrance unit on the Transom and I get no interference on that unit when the Marcum is on.

JWB, good to know, as I just recieved my LX3 high speed transducer and mounting bracket in the mail today and I will be running it with my Lowrance X71 on the dash.

Question: will mounting my high speed transducer on the transom right next to my lowrance transducer cause any problems? Should I be mounting it on the other side (Port) side of the boat?

I would disagree. Interference usually comes from difference in frequencies from different transducers running simutaniously. Usually all electronics are wired to the starting battery in a boat.
