Line Counter Reels

zelek

Question

I'm thinking about getting a new baitcaster for trolling cranks (with upwards of 300 feet of line out at times) and I'll probably be using 10/4 Fireline.

Do you guys that have the Abu-Garcia C3's (or similar) ever find yourself using reels with a line counter instead while trolling?? I was thinking I could mark the line with a bobber stop or something at 100, 200 & 300 feet, but now I'm thinking maybe a line counter woud just be easier.

Suggestions anyone??

Line counters are the ONLY way to go for cranks. I've fished eight feet of water at night when we only put 75ft out. How do you gauge that when your line is only marked every 100ft?

Save the headache and buy a line counter, they are not that much anyway.

You can get the clip on line counters pretty cheap and they work OK. Both Shakespeare and Rapala make them. If you troll this way a lot though, a built in LC reel is worth the investment. I went with Daiwa too.

I really like my Diawa Sealine Line counters and my Okumas are holding up well so far. I would get a set of Linecounters. Dont mess with the add on counters they dont last. The Sealines are a bit pricey but worth every cent and the Okumas are reasonable and seem to be doing fine so far and its about a year and a half on them now. I run Power Pro on them both.
