Flat out whooped em' again boys. A ton of small fish this morning, four that topped the 4lb mark, one 5lber, and one that just missed 6lbs.(5-14 rapala digital scale) I have always loved this lake but she has really done me right this year. Can't wait till in the morning to get right back at it. laugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

Leech,

I don't measure fish. I do have a tape measure in the boat, but honestly, I don't quite understand the fascination with everyone measuring fish. I have three scales in my boat--2 rapala digitals, and a shimano spring scale. I don't fish for anything but Bass, (except for that first two weeks between the pre-opener and the real opener) (Ya'll settle down that was made in good natured Jest), but I think that most guys measure fish because that is the standard for walleye's, Muskie's, and Spotted Dogfish (looky there, another good natured jest). I much prefer the accuracy of knowing the exact weight. I have also rigged my scales and replaced the hook with a heavy spring clamp so I don't have to punch another hole in the fishes mouth. It's not that I don't trust people when they give me a measurement, but I'll give you 2 examples. Two weeks ago we had a tournament on Howard lake, when I weighed my fish I had a really good fish that I thought for sure was my big bass, when I weighed him I was shocked to see that he only weighed 4-1. I grabbed the other large fish I had (very short, but really, truly FAT) it weighed 4-6 and took big Bass honors. Another good example was three weeks ago--Dad was up from Texas and fishing on Waconia he got on to a huge fish I mean big it had the mouth of a 7lb'er. When weighed however it weighed in at a whopping 3-15. I was schocked, I grabbed the other scale and it bounced between 3-15 and 4 even. I still thought "there is just no way, so I got out the spring scale--right at the 4lb mark. I was dumbfounded, we got out the tape and it measured 22 & 1/4 inches. I am not saying that on the whole that measuring fish is not somewhat accurate, I just think that with scales costing hardly nothing, it's just crazy not to have one in the boat.

Mike,

I work in the evenings, and I typically will only fish 3-4 times in the evening all summer long. I am a very early bird when it comes to fishing. I am typically on the water, at first light. I was out this morning, and again the bite was great, but the wind was just horrible, and I had a few things to do this afternoon. 2 4lb'ers this morning, one 3, quite a few 2's, and a ton of dinks. I went through 3 paks of plastic (25 per pack) before I quit at 8:30. I know people think I'm crazy, but Waconia is rocking this summer.

Good Luck

Good thing you go out early. The waterskiing crowd was obnoxious when I went out a few days ago. It got so bad I took the hook off a castmaster and seriously pondered nailing one of the (Contact US Regarding This Word) as he skiied by. At one point they even weaved in between my boat and another one near me. mad.gif
