92 MERCURY 20 HORSE PROBLEMS HELP !!

I have had this motor for 7 years without a problem.

I was fishing on winni this weekend and she started acting up. Scary when your in a 14 footer. Good thing no wind.

Anyway when i am going at full throtel or a little less my motor seems to kick out of gear. I will then need to throtel down for it to engage again. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this. I live in the Zimmerman area if anyone knows of a good shop that could work on this motor. Any help would be appreciated.

If it kicked out of gear at full throttle the RPMs would scream and you'd fly forward. I think your prop is spinning on its hub.

The RPM'S Do peek out , but i back it off right away. I checked the nut holding the prop on and it is tight. Once i back it off i can get it to move out again. Seems to kick out when it is under heavy load. Leaving our camp sight with all our gear in the boat and it seemed to kick out more offten. Could just be getting worse.

Time for a new prop and use that one for a spare.
