brittman
The 2005 MN Average Ruffed Grouse Drum Count was 0.8 / stop. This is statistically the same as last year.
setterguy
Pretty much what I expected. Looks like I am going to need a new pair of boots as it sounds like I am going to be putting some miles on searching for the pockets of birds. When there are less birds it just makes each one a trophy.
Riverratpete
Not to say that the DNR's count is wrong but I have to believe the numbers might be a little better, I'm just going off the info from people that live in the grousey areas and what they have been seeing on a day to day basis when it comes to weather, hearing birds, seeing birds etc, could just be a local thing also. Definetley like to see more birds for all the walking I've put on in the past couple years.
brittman
It is a very general prediction. The DNR simply publishes the average drum count for the state and some specific regions. This data is a sum of many different routes. Some routes will be higher than last year, some lower, some about the same.
Ely Lake Expert
In my local area, I also think the numbers are up a bit, but that is only in the area around my land.
WAG416
Well, If I can't seem to find birds around here, I just may head east to Eveleth. WAG
