Slyster
I just bought some spinnerbaits off of hsolist (beautiful ones!)... I requested my favorite colors- yellow/green/pumpkin....but they have other features... as they all do.What is the difference between... Round blades.. willow blades... 1 blade... 2 blades... Also some have an open tie area some closed (a metal loop). Is this all just for variety and one should try them all and see what is hot on a particular day? Or are some designed for specific species of fish?
federline
Willow blades allow the rig to run deeper, and they hug closer to the frame. It gives off a lot of flash, but relatively little vibration. The round blades give off lots of vibration, and tend to work better in murkier water, seem to give fish something to home in on (vibration) until they can see it. I say experiment. Lots! Ralph Wiggum
As to the open vs. closed tie area, the closed ones are made to be used with a leader or some type of snap closure, while the open ones are for tying directly to your line.Another note on the blades: the willow leaf will provide more flash as it spins faster. The Colorado blades will provide less flash, but as mentioned, more vibration.
Deitz Dittrich
federline has it pegged!... nice wrok fed.Colorado blades(the rounder ones) give off the most vibration, but the least ammount of flash. These are best suited for darker/stained water. As the vibration and slower speed of the lure will help the fish to find it.The Willow blades(longer narrow ones) will put off much less vibration, but will put off the most flash. Beset suited for clear water. Will all that being said, many spinnerbaits are offered with a tandem blade set with a small colorado and a larger willow blade at the same time, to get the best of both worlds...The one in your avitar is a double willow combination! delmuts
one extra tip. if you want to use the open end spinnerbaits with a leader; you can either wrap a small rubber band or slip a small pc. of tubing over the ende to make it close so the leader stays in place.
