shallow lakes

Recommended Posts

I would rule out any fishing in the 10:00 am to 3:30 pm time frame. other than that look for structure that would hold baitfish and pitch a bobber out there and wait, This is of course an hour before sunset. (most likely)

WEEDS, WEEDS, WEEDS, WEEDS, in shallow flat lakes, the weeds are the primary structure. Fish edges just like you would a breakline of gravel or sand. Lindy or crank egdes, bobber or jig opening and pockets. Typically shallow weedy lakes are dark water, so you can fish in day as well, but night typically will be better. Good luck

On shallow lakes with little structure or weedlines, look for points and inlets. Drift with the wind across points and drag a Lindy rig or bottom bouncer, somedays just drifting across the lake randomly will help locate some fish, just toss out a marker and drift well past the spot and circle back up wind and start another drift back towards your marker. On calm days trolling Rapalas along a change in depth can work pretty well, a lot of the lakes around here the bottom is usually flat across the lake and you need to be close to shore to find any kind of slope or structure.
