tonyjor
Hey everyone, I know this has been posted before but I can't find the other post. I have an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 6600SSC3 on a Shimano Compre 6'6" Medium fast taper 1-3oz. lure weight. I just rigged it with 80# power pro and I have a 12" 80# single wire leader. I'm wondering how I should go about thumbing the spool to stop it when I cast. Do I just stop it dead or thumb it lightly to slow it down then stop it before the lure hits the water? I've tried the latter with my brake set so the lure slowly drops when I press the button and I end up with a nice birds nest. I tried stopping it dead just as it touches the water and that works ok but isn't it bad for the line/lure to snap like that? What would be the best way to cast this setup and what casting methods do you all use? Thanks for any input!
RonZych
get it so the lure slowly falls as u press the button. then when you cast about 10 feet from when it is going to hit the water slowly put your thumb on it. then when it hits the water stop it. just have to mess around with it mostly all reels are different. delmuts
sounds like you are on the right track, just in need of some practice. usually an over hand cast is one of the easier to do when starting out. adjust your tension knob tigher til you don't get a back lash. it will shorten the distance ; but as you learn ; and educate your thumb, you can start backing it off.do you get the backlshes during the cast or when the lure youches the water? if during the cast; try to not snap your wrist as much , and increase the tension. if it happens after the cast; then you need to learn to feather the line as it gets closer to the water; then stopping the spool just as the lure touches the water. also some practicing in the back yard would be advisable.
