estimating weight by length

Hiya,

Well, you can get in the ballpark based on length alone, but within a few pounds is as close as you're likely to get without a girth measurement as well. Length alone's tough to get accurate estimates with. It's like saying "Bob is 6'2" - how much does he weigh?"

If you can get an accurate girth, the LxG/800 formula is actually pretty accurate. Not precise, but statistically speaking, pretty solid.
