Hi, I hope someone can help. I am trying to get my husband a trolling motor for his 19 foot 1988 Bayliner for Father's Day. I am so confused. What is this "pounds of thrust" stuff all about? How much thrust do I need? The boat is fiberglass and I guess heavy? HELP! Thank you. [email protected]

I would want at least 74#'s.

For that size an MinnKota 80 pd/ap, would be a good choice. That is if he has room for 2 batteries for a 24 volt system.

I would almost always say get the most you can afford.

Your husband is a lucky man. grin.gif

I don't know if it has a bow whatever - I think he said he'd use one he'd put on the bow, that does sound right. I might screw this all up so I'll probably end up getting him a gift card... Not near as exciting but probably safer! Thanks!

Dont worry about all this stuff. Pounds of thrust is basically what it says pounds of thrust. Im not framilliar with bayliner boats but in the post you mention its heavy. Its always better to get a trolling motor that has more pounds of thrust than less. If you get a motor with less pounds of thrust it could burn out easier though so its safe to go bigger. Any other q's just ask someone before you make your purchase.

No, he's not too picky really. He would be happy with just a Father's Day card but I know how much he wants a trolling motor... As for how heavy the boat is, I can't say for sure but it's big. I'm thinking 40# won't be enough (i've been reading EVERYTHING on the internet and may have learned a little about it, I said a little) Thanks for all your advice guys
