Rapalas

I think Im going to start using Rapalas more this year so which Rapalas work well in shallow water for Walleyes? Is the size 5 or 7 the one I should get and which colors are good? Do the Tail Dancers or Glass Shad Raps work good casting for Walleyes? Does Gander or any other place have any deals on them now?

you cannot go wrong with shallow shad raps in either gold or shad color. very versitile lure (fish species)

I use a SR5 clown colored shad rap when trolling in 5 to 7 feet of water for walleyes.

Original floater perch #7 and larger or anything with an orange belly.

I love to use the DT-4 they are great for working shallow water.

The number behind the DT on a Rapala tells you how deep the lure runs with 10# mono line I believe.

DT4--4feet deep

DT6-6feet deep and so on.

but it is specifically a rapala #?,, i guess i should pay more attention to those.

Im probably going to get a bunch of shad raps and experiment and see how I do. I wonder if the dt is the new Dives To series of Rapalas, I see there out with the dt 4 this year.

yes the DT is the dive to series and i believe the DT4 is the newest.

I personaly like to use countdowns in the blk/silver, 5's in the early season 7's mid summer an 9's in the fall. Match the hatch so to speak. I like em cause the sink a foot a second an then run at that depth. their great for shore fishing at river inlets. Later boar

Which brand, length and pound steel leader should I use with rapalas?

I wouldn't use a steel leader with a rapala fishing for walleyes. Just tie the lure directly to your line. I use spider wire original braid and haven't had a problem. I like the spider wire because I can feel the smallest weed that may have caused the action of the lure to change.

I will be mostly casting shorelines with lakes that have lots of northerns in as well. Ive been biten of a few times using 12 pound fireline casting jigs. If it werent for them things I would probably just tie it to my line.

Use Power Pro or Spiderwire(Fireline is not of the same quality in my opinion) and a good quality snap swivel and you won't lose anymore lures. Also, I like the jointed black/gold or black/silver for nightime trolling in the 3 to 5 foot depths.
