totem lodge/wiley point lodge??

Recommended Posts

My work is taking us to Wiley point in June, anybody have info on the place? The web site looks great but I have seen great photos before only to find a not so fine resort to stay at. I will have clients along that are pretty serious outdoorsmen and want this trip to be impressive yet comfortable. Everything I have seen points to a great trip but since I have no 1st hand knowledge I am curious...

thanks in advance for any info.

Been to Wiley twice. Didn't make it last year but talked to a guy at work who was up there and they just recently rebuilt some of their out of date cabins so if I was following him right, pretty much all the cabins are newer now and the lodge is not too old either. I have not cared for the lodge food much, but it could be that the shore lunch is just that good. Wait till you have the fried potatoes at shore lunch!!!WOW. There are also hotel style rooms attached to the lodge. We have stayed in the cabins. The bar is pretty close to the hotel style rooms and depending on the group the bar doesn't exactly close on time. The staff has been pretty young in the past (18-24 years old) and they will party with you if you invite them to hang with you. The fishing was better the second year, but still good the first year. Walleye, pike, muskie and bass where what we chased. We went to Shoal Lake one day and its a catch and release only part of the lake. Nice boat ride, fishing was about the same. Make sure you either line your clothing bags with plastic or bring plastic with to cover your bags for the ride to and from. There is plenty of time for them to get wet hauling them to and from the docks if its raining. Had a great time the two times I was there. We might be going back this June too, still waiting to confirm. They don't have much to sell as far as tackel goes so bring what you need. They have all the live bait you will need. Gold jig heads where the ticket when I was up there. You can get bags of 10 from Bass Pro Shops for like $3.00. Plenty of stuff to snag on the bottom, so bring enough with you. Good Luck and enjoy!!!

Nitroant is correct indeed. I failed to mention the newly renovated everything. I was just out there for a wedding last weekend. The staff did a great job for that as well as treating their guests as royalty.

I was lucky enough to go to Wiley two summers ago. I have been to several lodges in Canada and this is one of the best. It is remotely located but with all of the modern items, it takes away from the remoteness. We had a guide named Ron who was really good. He took us to Shoal Lake one day and we caught non stop big northerns trolling DEEP diving perch very large shad raps and he loves the very largest firetiger shallow running shad raps and the real light natural colored shad raps. The walleyes were very average but plentiful with jig/crawler. The boats were awesome/Lund Outfitters that get powerwashed daily. Ya, and I think I am still carrying around some of the weight I gained from the delicious shore lunches. Have Fun! laugh.gif
