More i finder questions

Yesterday I purchased an H20 from Cabela's ( I had a gift card to burn). After reading on here about software upgrades from Lowrance and making sure the i finder is up to speed I checked to see which version was on mine and found it to be 1.2.0. After looking at the Lowrance site it would appear that they are up to a 1.4.0 version. I guess my question is this.....Is it normal to right out of the package end up with outdated software or is this another Cabela's signature move of unloading old merchandise. I guess it isn't that hard to get it updated but should I be ticked or is this a normal occurrence. Also I went into Gander to get the Lakemaster - Lowrance chip and the guy in there went on and on about how the Navionics Premium is the best out there. I guess the main benefit for me would be that the Navionics has Rush lake and Cross lake (Pine City) on it. Well anyway enuff questions, I will wait and see what you guys think!

Thanks.....WS

Those were just updates that came alone after your unit was packaged. Usually the updates with have a description as to what they include or fix. Personally I'd feel good that your unit is new enough for Lowrance to have updates for it. Once it gets so old they don't have any updates.

I just updated my software on my Lowrance unit.... The current version is a 3.2, It takes too long by computer on their HSOforum, I took my unit to Thorne Bros in Fridley and took a matter of 5 minutes to update unit to the most current software and what a difference it makes. I also run the Lake master mmc chip and am very pleased on how accurate it is....Good Luck

Lee Harvey,

Go to lowrances HSOforum and they have the software updates. What you need is an MMC card (not a Navionics or Hotmaps.) Just a regular ol' card. And a card reader obviously. Then you download the software run the install. Plug the reader in, then your card and run the proggy.

First off thanks for the responses! It's always interesting to hear the different spins people put on things based on various opinions. I will take the Thorn Brother suggestion and see if they will give me a hand. My computer is slow to begin with and I didn't get the H2o plus so if I can get around having to spend the money on the extra package at the moment all the better. I guess that's food for thought for anyone else that would get one to consider the plus package right away to save a few Dollars.Surface Tension is correct in the view that at least I can upgrade the data. I was at Jo's sporting goods the other day and some poor guy with an older locator was more then a little unhappy because his unit was too old.The decision about which chip is still kind of a ping pong match that's been going through my head all day. I have scoured the archives on here a couple of times and it's pretty apparent the vote would be towards the Lake Master Lowrance chip.I had it in my hand at Gander but the fellow talked me into the Navionics just to end up with nothing because they were out of the Navionic chip until next week some time. Anyway thanks again I will get everything sorted out and try to get on the water with it in the next week.

can someone explain main benefit of the Plus over the regular Ifinder H20? I it just for the ability to install new software fixes. I am thinking of just purchasing the MMC Lakemaster card . It has all the lakes I would normally fish. Would ther be any good reason to pay the extra for the Plus package?

Styx,

The plus package allows you to use Mapcreate to create your own maps and also plot out routes and such. You can do that on your home P.C., save it on an MMC card and then load it on your handheld GPS. From reading your posts and what you're looking for, I would just go with the regular package
