Looking to go to bigger motor for my boat. This motor runs excellent and is in great shape. Controls are included, it's coming of a Crestliner 1750 Sportfish. Asking $3900.00

WTBF,

Would you know if this would be too much motor for a 1981 Lund Mr. Pike - 16ft? The boat has a rating of 75hp but that was back in 1981. Does anyone out there know?

Good question, but I'm not sure. I know my dad put a 100 hp on a 76 starcraft that was rated for an 85 and didn't have any trouble. Ask a dealer.

Flash, I wouldn't do it.

Too much power, weight should be slightly more, and main issue is liability.

A 1981 75hp (at flywheel) is a 60hp at prop, a 2000 90hp is 90hp at prop. If you have any accident, even if you are not at fault no insurance will ever pay any claim since you modified boat going with a higher HP than max USCG rating.

Nope- Standard factory prop, with just me in the boat. I raise up the lower unit to just above 3/4 (down) to get the max out of it. Not on a regular basis, just when I'm in the mood. Not that often... just kinda fun once in a great while. 8-Ball.

One more thing.. Was told at the dealer that if I upgraded to 115 that it would only incease my top-end 2 or 3 mph. I did not feel it was worth the extra $$ for just that little increase, personally. What were you looking at upgrading to? Your boat is probably rated 90-150, correct? 8-Ball.
