Whwn I get home I cut most of the stem and cut in two lenghtways. They you have to rinse the morels and soak in water or saltwater to get the bugs and the rest of the dirt off,not so good when your chewing on dirt. Then you can put them in a container in fridge and pour water out of container every hour or so until most water is gone or lay on paper towel and pat dry. Then

1-I lightly sprinkle flour on them and put them in a low heat frying pan or small kettle with a small amount of water(a couple teaspoons of water)add some butter to your liking and heat for 12-15 minutes, take out and enjoy.

2-Dry your morels again and dip in mixed up egg, then dip in ground up cracker crumbs and fry in butter until golden brown and again enjoy.

3-I like to saute the grays as they have a little more flavor and tend to be a little more tender, and the yellows can be sauted but i like them better in the cracker crumb mixture IMO.

4-Also if you look under Morels in google you will find many ways to prepare and either dry or freeze to preserve.

YOU CAN USE A BRUSH TO CLEAN THEM BUT YOU WILL BEAT THEM UP ALOT,I WASH THEM LIGHTLY TO REMOVE THE DIRT AND DONT BELIEVE I LOSE ANY FLAVOR YET I ALSO DONT HAVE A DIRT CRUNCHY MOREL TO EAT.SO MANY TIMES IF YOUR TO ROUGH WITH THEM THEY CRUMBLE APART,AT LEAST THAT HAS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE.

We got a Camp-Out bonus!!! While cooking over the campfire in the morning yesterday our Cubs Scouts came out of the woods with a bunch of them. So I asked them to go back & find more of them & they came back with a bunch. YUM-YUM!!!

Later,

Chris

I've found and consumed laugh.gif about 3 dozen of the black morels over the last week. I still don't know if we get the yellows up here. Fried them every time, gonna have to do something different with my next batch.

By the way, just from what I've read about them, I'm still a little bit nervous about eating many of the black morels in a sitting. Does anyone out there know of anyone who has had a bad reaction to them? Has anyone out there ever eaten the black morels?

Lee,

Any luck lately? I finally was fortunate enough to find a few in a new location. Probably have found a total of 40 in the spot since I've been looking. Looks like it is slowing down in that specific spot though. Tried the old Turkey spot one more time last night...nothing. Misquitos were absolutley nuts though.

Looked for some today with very little success, found about a dozen yellows and half of them were dried down.Lots of bugs, ticks and knee to waist deep weeds.Looks like it will end up being a pretty poor year.

Yes I do.The grays havnt come up in awhile and a few yellows continue to come. The problem you now face is alot of bugs, deep weeds and not to many new ones.If you are a die-hard and look long enough you may find some.Alot of the yellows im finding now have dried down and have some white mold on them. From what i have found is that when you start finding the real big yellows and some are molding it usually is over, but this year has been different and as we all know the more you think you know about Morels, usually they suprise you with something that does not make sense. This year im done.Good Hunting.

Went out last night one more time to check the spots that produced for me. Found one yellow about 2 1/2" . Found nothing else. Foilage is pretty thick. I think I'm done looking. Heading up to Brainard area this weekend at the in-laws cabin so maybe I'll scrounge around up there one day.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
