Broke my favorite jigging rod last night. It was a diawa model that they dont make anymore. I bought two of them and have broke them both over the years! I am now in the market for a new rod and was wondering what suggestions might be out there!! I use them mainly for walleyes. Thanks

I happen to like 7' jigging rods, graphite, IMX7. The IMX 6 graphite is just too soft. I wish they put more cork in the handle above the reel, and I just hate the little hook keeper guide, it likes to dig into my index finger. I should get a custom built but the reality of the situation is that Gander guide series are just fine, you can't go wrong with a Loomis, and I looked at a Daiwa on clearance that I really liked, but it was only 6'6" and passed on it. The interesting thing was, when I went home and surveyed my situation, there was this 6'6 graphite rod that I bought somewhere for $25 and have caught more fish on that than any of the rest. I'd like to recommend Shimano, but the model I have keeps breaking about 6" from the tip, and they keep replacing it. (3 times in a year and a half, no explanation, maybe it's just me and a string of bad luck). None of my rods are ultra lights, most are medium actions. So I present no clear solution, get whatever style suits your tast but get it in that good IMX 7 graphite 6'6" to 7'!

Just to many choices unless I know what you want to spend. If your going to stay in the $85 area find yourself a good 6'6" Premier or Fenwich HMX on sale. All around jigging a Med or Med/light with a fast tip will do ya fine. These could also be rigging rods if you need them to.

If your looking at spending more money on a high end rod I also would call Bill or Al at Midwest and check out the new sensor handled rods. Very sensitive. They are a sponsor and can be found at www.midwestrodandreel.com

I broke my favorite Loomis the last weekend in April out at Waubay. 7'6'' IMX spinning rod. Best live bait rod I've touched. I sent it back to Loomis and they replaced it at no charge, no questions asked. I had to pay to ship it out there and $20 to ship it back. Can't beat that warranty service.

I don't know how much money you are going to spend by for jigging a 6'6'' IMX Spinning rod in the Light or Medium action is tought to beat. I had a couple of Abu Garcia rods that were an IM7 graphite when I was a kid but those have come victim to my uncles big feet. I have 8 Loomis rods now and wouldn't trade a one for a loosey St.Croix rod.

SDPROV,

Another suggestion...

If you aren't stuck on high end gear, you could possibly buy 2 mid-range rods for near, or maybe slightly more than say a G-Loomis. It's worth it to have a couple of rods rigged up for different situations. I know that's not always a possibility, but just some food for thought.

BTW, my preference is a 6.5' ML action. Most of my jigging is done directly under the boat. A longer rod will put that jig that much further away from the Vex. I also feel you have more control when precision is needed.

JR's just came out with some new rods, they are a board sponsor and everything I have ever bought from them has been real high quality, I have a couple Fenwicks from there, when I broke the tip on one I brought it back in and they handed me a new one no questions asked! Now you can't beat that service! Check them out they have a HSOforum in the sponsors section and they also have a store in Osseo right off of 169 by fleet farm!

DO NOT, REPEAT,DO NOT go into JR's store. If you do, take your wife along for protection. I went in there last winter for a couple small items and before I knew it I blew half the house payment. They are nice people, though. wink.gif

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
