JohnMickish
Do any of you guys use these plastic fins that bolt on to the lower unit? Claimed to "instantly" get you up to plane and increase handling and MPH. Do they work like claimed or just another way to sucker some money out of me? 0 ZapBranigan
I have a 45Hp Mariner on a 16 ft Lund. with heavy guys in my boat I had trouble getting up to plane. These Little bolt on numbers definitly helped. More MPH Not unless you weren't getting up to plane at all. It did make it so I didn't have to fiddle with my trim any longer. Once my load is in the boat I can set it once and be pretty much good for the duration of that fishing trip.
0 CatManLee
Hydrofoils will get you on plane easier, but in my experience wont help much in getting faster speeds. Some people don't like these, thinking it puts too much stress on the lower unit. I say if it works for you, go for it.
0 JohnMickish
Hydrofoils, that's the name I was trying to think of.
0 Valv
I never liked them. They definitely will give you faster plane, but they will take some speed off your top end.
0 tyho
I have one on a 35 hp Johnson and love it. It realy helps with getting the boat up on plane. Mph is a wash.
0 Gus
I have an older 16foot lund with a 50hp and the fins really helped get it on a plane. It really helped out the most when the boat is the most weighted down. Even pulling smaller water skiiers it helped out a bunch.
0 Fishbitten
If your boat motor is set up right it will help plane the boat out. It will not affect top speed at all for the cav. plate should not even be in the water at speed.
0 Surface Tension
It helps get you on plane faster but what I like about them is you can stay on plan at slower speeds where without the fin the boat would fall back down.
