Grilling Fish

I figured that if I had fish in the subject line and mentioned it in here in the text I could get away with a grilling question here in the fishing forum.

So do you guys prefer to grill your fish on a gas grill or a good old fashioned charcoal grill? I have a Weber charcoal grill because I do not care for the propane ones. My fish taste better grilled on coals. Put the coals around the outside of the grill and put the fish in the center and cook them like a convection oven. MMMMMM Well, actually the best fish are the ones made over the fire embers on a shore luch! smile.gif Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

Always charcoal. Just be absolutely!!!! certain that all your lighter fluid is burned off. That flavor WILL glue itself to the fish. Ick!

Had two big ole salmon fillets off the grill just this past weekend :-)

Rus... I have a chimney that I use to strart the charcoal. You pour the charcoal into it, crumple up a page and a half of newspaper and stick in the bottom, light it and walla... No fumes from the starter at all. Have had it for about three years now and it's still in good shape! Check into it... you will be happy with it. I know that they carry them at that store that has the silo... Does not take any longer than the fluid used to either. Have a good one and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

The black Weber pot belly charcoal grill is what I've always had and I love it. Tried friends propane grills, cooked the food, didn't have any fun, lost the flavor I love. I've started using 50% hardwood chunks and 50% charcoal, too. Can't believe the money they get for those propane grills, either. If I were dropping that kind of cash, I'd be getting a professional smoker/grill with an offset firebox.

Gotta love charcoal. I do like to use gas if I dont want to wait for the coals, I just season the heck out of the meat. The other night we cooked 3 pork chops, 2 T-bones, 5 no name steaks, 5 elk brats, 2 elk chops, and 2 bags of vegies on a gas grill and I dont think I would want to cook all that on a weber. It was good but it was definetly missing something. Last night cooked 3 salmon fillets and two Halibut on a weber. Threw some soaked cedar chips on top of the coals and mmmmm mmmm.
