anchor cleat on Lund

anchor man

Question

I have a new Lund Fisherman and noticed that the front anchor/tie off cleat is located almost at the mid point of the boat and not up near the bow. I do quite a bit of anchoring when fishing and was wondering if this cleat being so far back holds the boat more perpendicular to the wind, creating drag and not parallel to the wind if the cleat were at the bow. I know I could also use the front tow line eyelet to tie the anchor rope off, but that looks like too much work to be hanging over the bow of the boat every time I want to anchor. Maybe the cleat being so far back doesn't affect anything...anyone have any experience with this??

Thanks

Just me agian....I have the same setup as you do, and the placement of the anchor cleat to me doesn't really have any effect on how the boat is anchored. With the Fisherman, they do catch more wind being higher out of the water. Boat does twist a little bit, just make sure that you get a good anchor like the Mille Lacs Rock anchor. That is what I have and never had any problems with the boat "drifting" while anchored.

The cleat you ask about did cause my Lund to sit somewhat perp. to the waves and catch more wind that I liked. I do not have the rock anchor mentioned above. My anchor wouldn't always hold. I decided to add a "Gripper" cleat on the bow near the trolling motor bracket. That factory cleat seems to have been positioned for dock fender. It is a good spot for a driftsock however. Good Luck!

I always thought that the forward cleats were for tying up at the dock (works well for drift socks). I installed an anchor cleat on the bow and use a Richtor anchor; works well although it's getting a little crowded with the factory horn, trolling motor, and depthfinder.

a few years ago I started using a chain with my anchor it works way better than an rope only. Just add about a four foot section of heavy chain to the anchor and attach the rope to the chain. The chain keeps the angle of the rope down and allows for better hold in the wind.
