Boat cover suggestions?

Just got a new boat and I need to buy a cover for it. I am going between either canvas or poly. What are your suggestions? Brands? Oh, it is going to be on a lift if that matters with a choice. Thanks for any info

A guy I work with has some boat covers from a cabelas sale. You can get them pretty cheap if he has the right size for you. Let me know if you are interested and I can ask him.

I bought a canvas one when I first bought my boat. It rotted out pretty fast so I bought a Lund one for about 2 bills and it is still in great shape and its at least 7-8 years old. It is a poly coated one (or something like that)so I wouldnt get a canvas one, at least not a cheap one.

I have a canvas cover on mine that I got at the sidewalk sale at that worlds foremost outfitter sporting goods store in Owatonna. Cost $15.00. It was missing one eyelet for tieing down. Whoopie... that was corrected with 3 dollars worth of materials. Not made exactly for the boat but it keeps the rain out! Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

I would go with a Canvas, I have a custom cover that came with the boat I got, It was used when I bought it. So it is still going well, just had to get new loops put on it last year only cost me $25. It has to be at least 6-7 years old. If you can limit using to cover when you are trailering you will extend the life of your cover by years.

What size of boat is it? I can check with him to see if he has your size. I can almost gaurantee he will beat any price you find and they are brand new. He does have some ratchet types depending on the size. You can email me at rip_some_lip2000 at yahoo dot com

When it comes to buying a boat cover, I wouldn't skimp and buy the cheapest. I bought the cheapest and ended up giving it away because it just did not work for traveling and keeping the elements out.

I've owned the heaviest poly covers that were custom built for the boat, and last year I had another custom built for another boat I bought last spring. My current cover is a lightweight canvas-like material and I love it. You can do a search on the web for "boatcovers" and that's who made mine.

I just bought a used 17-1/2' boat. It has a great travel cover and it is canvas. Canvas has the great advantage over vinyl covers that it does not shrink when cold. Have you ever tried to snap a vinyl cover on a 32 degree boat? If you go custom, consider canvas.

I also had a rubberized storage cover bought from a large chain retailer for like $60. Lasted many years but was not too good for trailering but it sure worked good for keeping rain out.

I got a canvas boat cover from Overtons. Cost was around $100.00 and well worth it. Worked very well for keeping the elements out and as traveled down the road very well using Hurricane tie downs. I would definetly recomend the boat covers from Overtons.
