How the fishing

Recommended Posts

Littlejerk-

I dragged my dad over to Devil's Lake yesterday (I assume you are talking about DL) for some northern Pike. I had the timing of the trip off (as usual) and was a little early for a late ice pike bite. We did manage 3 small guys but that was it. The folks around us had about the same action and the fish were all about the same size (3-5 pounds).

The perch action has been off the entire year. There are some reports have better perch fishing lately. On the other hand, the walleyes are supposed to be biting very nice. There was a big crowd of fisherman in 6mile bay fishing walleyes. The few gentleman I talked to said very early morning they were picking up a few. I also saw a photo of a 1lb 15 oz crappie taken from this area.

If you are looking for perch, I would probably just take the short trip over to Winni.

The interesting thing about the Perch, I just read in the Grand Forks herald this morning that the ND DNR is going to be stocking the lake this year with Perch fingerlings. This is something they've never done in recent years and are looking at options to try and get the awesome Perch fishing jumpstarted again.

I had my truck out there. There were trucks all over the ice in 6 mile bay. Quite a few F250 Quad Cabs and other 3/4 ton diesels. I would assume 4 wheeler traffic will be happeneing very soon though. The ice is still very good and hard when you auger, the snow on top was melting good with a little water on top of the ice.

The gravel road from the north side & east side were getting VERY muddy. The gravel from the west side was very good.
