Opinions on plastic skirted bucktails

The people that use them seem to love them. I just bought a few this year at the muskie show so I plan on spending some time throwing them. I talked with a guys at the local bait shop, said he caught a 47 and a 48 in 1 day on a rubber skirted bucktail, so he's hooked!

ok , i'm curious. how do you put a rubber/silicon skirt on over a treble hook? ( besides carefully!! grin.gif) and then is it only over the back one or both? it would make for a different look .

I started using them Last year and they out produced all other lures I threw. LLungen Tails (inline) and Raddogs (Safety Pin) are what I used. I did catch some on hair but the plastics worked better for me.

I love them. They are quite durable. I trolled with them on the Ottawa River and caught 3 fish(44,45, and 45) in one day on a red and white one can't remember the name, but I think they quit making them, it's been a couple years, and since then I've started making my own. I like the willow leaf and Indiana blades the best. I also think they tend to rust less since they dry faster.

It been my experience that the plastic skirts do out perform hair under certain conditions. One of those is in cold front situations, don't ask me why they do it's just something that I have found to be true. grin.gif

Well I have a bunch of spinner forms at 1.5 and 2.5 oz. I'm dressing some with bucktail some with plastic, some with both. It should be fun to see what they go after. As for getting the plastic skirts up on a trebble you can try rolling the rubber band down over the eye, attach it on the wire prior to the trebble, or just cut the skirt material and tie it on like you do bucktail.
