FISHER ED
The wife and I are looking at possibly moving to the Hasting/Prescott area and one of my biggest questions is what does the area have for lakes? I know the Miss and St Croix are right there with all their areas like Pepin but what about other, non river lakes on both sides of the border? Not looking for anyones hot spots just an outlook of fishing areas to drop the boat if the opportunity comes. Thanks in advance. Ed
CorynTracySellHomes
Hey Ed!Besides the rivers there is not a whole lot of lakes. The St. Croix in that area is more like a lake than a river. There is Lake Rebecca right in Hastings, Lake Isabele, also in Hastings, the Vermillion river south of town can be fun! Also, Grey Cloud in Cottage Grove can be good! Between Hastings and Redwing there is numerous backwaters to explore that can be VERY rewarding! Have fun!Cory Frantzick
Stratosman
Cory said it right, not much. Everything is a river backwater. The nearest lake would probably be 20 miles. But the river is way underfished and has every specie imaginable. The only trouble is boat traffic.
FISHER ED
Thanks guys. I figured the river would offer some good fishing but the traffic would be high in numbers. Can only really fish on the weekends. Don't mind having to dodge a few boats on the water, just can't stand the circus at the landings. Can really start or end a day on a bad note. MikeYager - Suzuki
Early season is best when it's cold and/or wet out. Pleasure boating is minimal. Miss river sees substantially less traffic than Croix overall.
Stratosman
Best times to fish the river on weekends are from as early as you can get out there to about 9:00, that;s when the mayhem begins. The Miss gets bad too.. just in spurts because of the Hastings and Red Wing Locks.

Yellow Dog
I've put in at the landing by the high bridge in Hastings and gone downriver to fish where the Croix and Miss. connect (kind of cool to watch where the two water colors meet)Anyway, are there backwaters in that area to check on for crappies and bass? CorynTracySellHomes
Hey Yellow Dog..There are quite a few places to explore. You can check out back in the Kings Cove harbor, down stream from Prescott, you can go behind the island, down stream further, more on the Minnesota side there are quite a few places to check out, Mileys Run, North Lake, Sturgeon lake. Have fun and proceed with care!!!Also, there are alot of productive wing dams down from Prescott.Cory FrantzickCory Frantzick
