Marcum LX3 - Trolling motor mount?

CRET

Question

I am wondering how well the summer transducer will mount on my minkota trolling motor? I have a Pro Team 185 Bass Tracker; I need something up front when I am on my trolling motor, is there a better place to mount? I am very close to buying an LX3, but need to know howit will work for my trolling motor / summer needs? Help?

Cret,

All I use for open water structure identification is a flasher. That's all I've ever used. I prefer flashers in the summer because of how terribly simple they are. Turn it on, leave the gain on 0 or 1, and occasionally change the depth scale. I can then tell you the depth, presence of weeds or fish (or lack thereof), and the bottom composition. That's all I need.

Now the one thing I really, really, really don't like about the new breed of flashers (MarCum and Vexilar) is the 20 foot depth scale. Thirty feet is perfect for a bass fisherman, so I wish that was the standard again like it once was. Unfortunately, flashers are aimed at the ice market almost exclusively now, and a twenty foot scale seems to be the preferred readout.

I'll just have to suffer with occasionally changing the scale. But, the LX-3 will serve you just as well in the summer as it does in the winter.
