I will be in the Marcell area during the 4th of july this summer. What is the best lakes in that area to catch some good smallies?? I was there last summer and did not catch one. Did get some good large mouths though.

thanks,

If I remember right I think there is good sized lake near Marshall called Green Lake. It has big smallies and big largies also. Supposed to be a good topwater lake. Good Luck

Turtle can be pretty decent. It's gin clear, so I would get there early. North Star is another. Same deal there, clear water. Those are probably the two best in the area. There's some lakes with small populations here and there, but I wouldn't go out of my way for those.

I did get to fish a lake in the area a few years ago that had no access, but was loaded with smallmouth. I was up there during the week, got to B.S.ing with a local, and he offered us access through his yard. We caught and released some king kongs in there, but it was one of those once in a lifetime deals. Right place at the right time, and bought the right guy a beer. smile.gif
