Boat rigging

MNice

Question

I have a WC 14 deluxe boat that I am going to do some work on it. I have to clean up the wiring so the lights and depth finder are permanently wired instead of alligator clips. Also plan on adding a plug in for the trolling motor as well as a lighter adapter for my GPS or cell phone. All of the wiring will be concealed some where, I just don’t know exactly where yet, as I’m very early in the planning stages. My question is, do any of you have some other simple ideas you've found to be handy in your boat? I do want to keep things simple, but just add a little more convenience.

Thanks!!!

I'm doing the same thing this spring. I was thinking of picking up a marine fuse block and a negative terminal strip. Before I had all the wires with inline fuses running out of my battery box along with the negative lines. I had wires all over the place. I will also that gel to protect the connections. I was always cleaning off my connections to get things to work.

Marine wiring is different than home or RV, so it is a good idea to search the internet for some articles to get you started on the basics. You should plan on using marine grade wire, use the right guage for the distance and load you are planning, make sure the connections can handle water and vibration, etc. For example, crimped connections are preferred over just soldering. You should have fuses to protect the wiring AND the devices. Also, get DC sockets with rubber caps designed for marine use.

Hope this helps....
