Just wondering if anyone has been lately in the past few years? How the fishing was in late june and if there are any tips to big walleye's up there? Trip booked just research and wasting time until then

I have stayed at that resort the last 7 years in late June and you should have no problem finding fish near by. We never had to travel more than 15 minutes to find all of the fish we wanted. Have fun on the last 18 miles of road to get to the boat landing, it is a real mess. The rocks on the road have taken out a few tires in the past!

Otherwise you will not have a problem fing fish in water from 9 feet to 18 feet deep! Good luck!

Oz,

If the wind is blowing into it, try trolling shadraps (or whatever) in front of the big sand hill across from the resort (you'll see when you get there). Can be awesome!

Thanks for the info!! How about Vaughn Lake? I heard about it years back, where does one attack that lake? I know it is near Mahkwa. Reason being a resort I used to go to did day trips there for walleye!

Never went in Vaughn. Plenty of fish to be caught on LS. Bring lots of plastics (crawlers, grubs) to jig and rig with. Never used live bait any of the times I've been there. Fish the wind and you will catch all the walleyes you want. Watch for rocks!!!!

I have been up there the last few years later in the year. Good number of walleye, but if you are looking for trophys 28"+ I have only seen one in our group in 3 years. decent number of fish in the low to mid 20"s. It has a brutal 15 mile stretch of gravel road to get there, watch out for big rocks, they used to have gas resonable at the lauch for about half of what you would pay at the resort. now they only have the resort gas which is spendy. Bring a GPS and take it slow the first day and buy the map, once you get away from the resort it all looks the same, and it is easy to lose direction. Watch out for hazards!

This will be my 19th year at Mahkwa. We used to come in when it was a 2.5 hour boat ride. That gravel road everyone complains about is a lot nicer than the big boat ride. Plus, the gravel road is a lot better than it used to be. Vaughn Lake is really just a bay of Lac Seul. It is right around the corner from Mahkwa. Attack it like any other....windy, rocky shores. But be careful, there is one nasty rockpile in the middle of it. Actually there is another way down toward the end of it too. We usually fish the first week of June, thus we cant fish Vaughn. That doesnt bother us that much, as the rest of the lake has plenty to offer. Let me know if you want any other info. We will be up there the week of June 3 this year. Oh, as for the live bait deal, sometime it takes a minnow, but as someone said, a good part of the time you dont need anything other than a plastic of some sort. Bring plenty as you will lose some to the snot rockets.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
